Before – Coral Cottage
Many years ago we painted our home a bright coral, purple and yellow with a blue roof.
Now – Red Dirt Cottage – Red Dirt Farm We have been renovating and adding an addition to our house for the past two years. We have a new bright red roof, the siding is green and the trim is blue.
Our farmhouse is a 1930’s cottage style farmhouse, in central Virginia.
Home to artist Kim and husband Mr. Cottage, 4 cats, 3 peacocks, 25 hens and 2 roosters. We also have two senior rescue dogs that complete our family.
Nope, I won’t get the homemaker of the year award, because my house is full of clutter, dust, cat and dog hair and lots of unfinished creative projects.
Mr. Cottage is the down to earth smart business oriented mind. Me – I’m the head in the clouds, day-dreamer.
For over twenty years, I dedicated my time to animal rescue – cats and dogs. Never, did I think that would include chickens but I’m happy to say we have several that we brought here and gave a second chance. That has been very rewarding.
My purple studio where I create art sits under the shade of an old pecan tree at the back of our property. Although in recent years my art has taken a bit of a back seat while I have been recovering from a head, neck and shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. I love creating, and I guess I always will, in some shape or form.
I’ve long dreamed of raising chickens and growing flowers to sell. In the fall of 2015 I opened a little road-side stand and started selling our eggs. Now I’m working hard to increase my wildflower and heirloom gardens and sell cut flowers at the stand. I’m sharing this new journey on my blog.
I care for my animals and my flowers the same way, using nature as a guide, no chemicals, no pesticides for the plants and no harmful antibiotics or steroids, for the animals; lots of love and taking the bad with the good.
And that my friends, is what Red Dirt Cottage – formerly Life at Coral Cottage is all about.
But WAIT There’s more!
We are in the middle of a major remodel and home addition as we prepare to become a two-generation family.
