share the journey

Morning Y’all. What’s new in your neck of the woods?

IMG_2092-1

I’ve been working on some changes here.

Same blog name, new look.   A funny thing happened on the way to writing this post.

As is often the case, I started to write about one subject and then it ended up being completely different from what I planned.

Truth is I struggle to blog.   Pretty much every post I make, I think in my mind will be my last.

The weird thing though is that I want to blog.  I like to share photos and stories and recipes and meet people through this amazing platform.

Because I carry my heart on my sleeve and I share personal stuff, it really puts me out there.

A place I’m not always comfortable going.

A blogging friend, made a comment recently about why she started blogging and ultimately stopped blogging.  Her words spoke true to my heart and left me feeling as though I needed to rethink how and why I blog.

In recent years there have been so many life changes for me, many of which were beyond my control, that I’ve headed down many different paths only to be re-routed half way.  I know that some of these changes are still unfolding and ultimately I won’t know where it will end.

My creative endeavors have changed, evolved and morphed into different styles and looks as I have changed.  What has remained consistent is my desire to stay true to the authentic me, even when I wasn’t certain what that meant.

I enjoy creating stuff.

I love to cook plain simple comfort food, with fresh ingredients.

I love flowers and growing them.  I don’t like to weed.

I don’t like orderly straight lines.

I love animals.  All kinds.

I always wanted to live on a farm.

I always wanted to live by the ocean.

If I could live on a farm beside the ocean it would be perfect.

I love to take pictures.  All the time.  Of everything.  I don’t like to Photoshop my photos.

I like handmade.  Homegrown. Fresh and Natural.

That’s the way I like to live, grow and raise my pets.

These are the things I will continue to blog about.

Here are some things that I am working on.

I’ve started a new weekly series, called Feel Good Friday – I’ll feature posts about random things that just make a person feel good.  If you come across a story, video or picture that you think would be fun to share, let me know.  If you missed the first post,  you can view the fun video here.

I’ve created a new Facebook page for the Cottage road-side stand –   I’m not good at social media, so I don’t do FB on a personal level.  I would, however, like to use it to let my local folks know what is happening and will be available each week at the stand.  I need help with growing this page, I’d love for y’all to join me over there, even if you aren’t local.

I’m working on growing this interest of mine, but I don’t want my blog to sound like a commercial.

I will continue to share updates on the cottage renovation, our animals, cooking and creating.

We had snow early in the week, and then it quickly melted, just the way I like it.

I walked around and took a few pictures.

The chickens think I am responsible for the weather, just as I am for their food, water, and clean bedding.  They weren’t too happy about the white stuff, and let me know.

  1. The blog looks great and so does your pic! I always thought that your house would fit perfectly in a setting near the ocean. 🙂

    1. Caroline, you certainly understand the vibe we were feeling when we choose our paint colors! My new profile picture was taken in a restaurant by the water – imagine that – when we were last in Florida. I’m dreaming of that warm weather, and the sound of ocean waves lapping… thanks for your support! xo kim

    1. Linda – that purple building still makes me smile every time I see it. I bet there are some people out there that think I should gussy up my photos. I was told once that my photography wouldn’t be taken seriously unless I did use Photoshop or some other means. That just made me want to prove them wrong. I use a free service – Picmonkey to put my coral cottage logo in place. I’ve tried playing with their preset filters, but I get so impatient. Last week I got the courage and submitted a photo for a contest. I was proud that I had the courage to do it, but then after I looked all the beautiful (enhanced) photos I realized mine didn’t stand a chance. At least I did it. Hope you are well. xo k

  3. I do understand the ambivalence about continuing with your blog. Mine has fallen by the wayside as well. Other things are higher on the priority list right now. With that said, I always smile when I see the email that you have written a new post. I so enjoy seeing the pictures of life on your little farm in a land far away from where I live. The plants are different and greener! I love seeing the birds and hearing about their escapades. I also love the cats and dogs that are your companions. I am sure that we would be friends if we lived closer. And, someday, when I am in the neighborhood, I will stop at that adorable farm stand! Oftentimes our journeys take us on a different path than we initially thought, but those are often the best adventures. I enjoy seeing where yours is taking you.

P.S. I love your glass heart with the kitty!

    1. Ah Lisa – you made my day! Thank you. The kitty in the glass was Joey – we lost him a few years ago, but he was well loved while he was with us.:)

  5. Hi Kim, You know that I am a big fan of yours and love to read and see whatever you choose to share from your life. And I especially love your photos, just as they are! I’m glad I was able to spark your blogging re-evaluation because sometimes we just need to take another look at what we’re doing and make sure we’re still happy with it or want to make any changes. I’ll be following you as long as you’re posting…and I’ll head over to your new facebook page and follow you there as well. Much love, S.
